GENERAL INFORMATION

Scuba Schools International (SSI) is a globally operating and certifying commercial training organization for divers. As a training organization, SSI develops teaching concepts and standards, as well as learning materials for divers of all certification levels.

Founded in 1970, Scuba Schools International pursues a consistent expansion policy through a franchise-like concept. Its training materials are distributed through dive centers, i.e., dive schools, dive centers, and shops. With over 2,000 authorized dealers in 110 countries, SSI has a comprehensive global presence. SSI is a founding member of the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC) and has offered training courses according to ISO 24801 and 24802 since 2012. All SSI diving certifications are recognized worldwide, and SSI generally recognizes diving certifications (brevets) from other organizations, thus enabling further training (e.g., as a dive instructor) under its guidelines.

The main difference compared to other diving training organizations is that SSI instructors are only permitted to teach at SSI dive centers or through an SSI-approved dive club or similar organization. This is to ensure adherence to standards and high-quality training.

The revised Instructor Manual, in conjunction with the Science of Diving and Dive Guide materials, follows a new approach: creating programs that are unprecedented in their form and flexibility.

Through this multi-stage system of theory and extensive practical experience, today's Assistant Instructor (AI) is simply better trained and thus able to conduct theory and pool lessons without direct supervision. Additionally, the AI can assist an active SSI Instructor with open water training, gaining further teaching experience.
This is the ideal preparation for subsequently participating in an Instructor Training Course (ITC).

As a certified and active Assistant Instructor (AI), you are authorized to:

  • Organizing and accompanying activities and trips for certified divers
  • Supporting SSI instructors in training in theory, pool and open water
  • Independently teach theory and pool work under the supervision of an active SSI Instructor.
  • Independently teach Scuba Skills Update, Snorkeling, Discover Scuba Diving and selected SSI Specialties
