I.A.C. Freediver Basic *

Requirements:

  • Proof of buoyancy
  • Valid diving medical certificate or declaration of health status
  • At least 12 years old

Theoretical training:

  • Medicine (breathing reflex, blackout, diving reflex, lung function, barotrauma, first aid measures)

Practical training:

  • Basic breathing techniques for preparing for the dive and recovery breathing after the dive
  • Assume the correct position for static apnea (STA) diving at the beginning of the dive and ensure proper safety measures are in place during ascent.
  • Complete a STA of at least 1 minute.
  • Buddy safety in STA including rescue exercise
  • Perform buoyancy control for dynamic (DYN) diving
  • Demonstration of a DYN start and the correct fin stroke for underwater swimming
  • DYN dive of at least 25 meters
  • Introduction to deep diving with one dive to a maximum depth of 10 meters.

I.A.C. Advanced Freediver **

Requirements:

  • Valid diving medical certificate or declaration of health status
  • At least 16 years old

Theoretical training:

  • Medicine (breathing reflex, breathing technique, lung function, first aid measures)
  • Introduction to pressure equalization
  • Training methods (conventional methods, mental exercises)
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Safety techniques for this performance level
  • Buoy setup and knot tying for deep diving
  • Risks of freediving
  • Introduction to the Laws of Dalton and Henry
  • Written exam

Practical training in the pool/confined open water:

  • Completion of at least 4 freedives
  • 40-meter underwater swimming
  • Demonstration of a turn in underwater swimming
  • Securing a STA attempt (buddy backup)
  • Review of rescue techniques in STA

Practical training in open water:

  • Completion of at least 4 freedives
  • Duck dive with and without rope reference
  • Demonstration of a turn on the rope
  • Diving to a depth of 15-20 meters (open water)
  • Rescuing a freediver from 10-15 meters, transporting them to shore, and administering first aid.
  • Learn how to use the lanyard safely

Practical training in the pool/confined open water:

  • Completion of at least 4 freedives
  • 60-meter underwater swimming
  • Practical use of training tables as a training option in STA and DYN
  • STA and DYN warm-up design
  • Complete a STA of at least 3 minutes.
  • Safety measures and first aid for DYN

Practical training in open water:

  • Completion of at least 4 freedives
  • Adjusting equipment during an acclimatization dive (a beginner's first open water dive)
  • Demonstration of correct freefall techniques including position changes during the fall
  • Demonstration of the correct approach to new depths
  • Safety and execution of deep dives to 20-30 meters
  • Rescuing a free diver from a depth of 15 meters, towing 25 meters to shore, first aid measures (including O2 and AED demonstration)
